Internship applications for the fall 2021 cycle will open on Sunday, August 1, 2021 and close on Monday, August 23rd, 2021. The fall 2021 cycle is from September 7, 2021 through November 30, 2021.

Our internship program runs on a 12 week cycle for fall, spring, and summer terms. Each intern will be placed on a track based on interests, skills, and experience. Please see below for descriptions of each track to determine what may be the best fit. Internships with the Hawk for Congress campaign are a great way to supplement your academic studies and therefore all interns are encouraged to apply for academic credit with their institution with support from the campaign.

10 hours per week

Your major might be:

This track is an introduction to political campaigns that will give an overview of the workings of a federal campaign. Special focus will be on a wide variety of experiences, including attending, planning, and organizing events, assisting with various campaign wide projects, canvassing, phone banking, and administrative tasks as assigned.

You might be a good fit if...

You’ve never worked on a campaign before as an intern or staffer, are a freshman or first semester sophomore, and like working on a team. You may also be interested in joining politics in the future but aren’t sure where to start.

Comms Editorial

12 hours per week

Your major might be:

This track will focus heavily on writing and outward-facing messaging. This is a great opportunity to hone your writing skills and learn more about political communications. Assignments may include speeches for the candidate, press releases, editorials, and op-eds. 

You might be a good fit if...

Creative Writing

Communications

You have experience in professional writing or consider yourself a wordsmith. You may also be good at time management, working independently, and meeting a deadline is no sweat.

Comms Digital Content & Design

15 hours per week

This track will focus on media content and design on digital platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Interns will have an opportunity to explore their creativity and learn the ins and outs of digital campaign messaging.

You might be a good fit if...

You love thinking outside the box, nerd out over fonts, or have experience in social media content and planning. Any form of digital creative experience is a plus, but not required to excel in this track.

Data, Research, 
& Finance

10 hours per week

Your major might be:

Economics

Accounting

Finance

This track will range from researching and analyzing national and local statistics, developing systems to analyze performance data, to deep-diving into voting numbers across the district. Projects may include projecting and organizing fundraising data, researching donor potential, and analyzing statistics related to the campaign.

You might be a good fit if...

You listen to economics podcasts, enjoy independent work, have experience in statistical analysis, and love a clean spreadsheet.

Policy

12 hours per week

This track will involve researching, developing, and providing briefs on international, national, statewide, and local issues for the candidate and campaign staff. Special projects will include creating issue guides and fact sheets for campaign staff, interns, and volunteers.

You might be a good fit if...

Your social media of choice is Twitter and you have experience or interest in researching and writing policy. You may consider yourself well-versed in local, national, and international issues. You enjoy and are skilled at writing and work well independently.

Field

Interns will gain a thorough understanding of fieldwork on political campaigns by participating in a variety of operations. This track will focus on planning outreach events, building local coalitions, phone banking, canvassing, and recruiting and engaging volunteers.
